1-Day Intensive Workshop; Strongly Recommended

Advanced Data-Based Decision-Making, Program Evaluation and Educational Outcomes:

This workshop is an excellent follow-up session to the Universal Screening Getting Started Package. Put your data to work for you!

In addition to using various case studies, a Certified AIMSweb® Trainer (CAT) will teach you step-by-step how to walk through your actual data. Through a hands-on experience, earn key steps, guidelines, and tips for interpreting a variety of AIMSweb reports at the student, classroom, school, district, and national levels--all designed to facilitate improved educational outcomes for students. This workshop is specifically designed for organizations that are familiar with AIMSweb® for academics, have conducted Universal Screening using AIMSweb®, and would like to enhance their skills in using their AIMSweb® data. Progress Monitoring data will also be reviewed, if available, within your organization.

Workshop does not include training on AIMSweb® assessments, system setup, or management of the AIMSweb® system (i.e., School or District-level management functionality.)

1-day workshop + 1 hour webinar/phone consultation.

Who should attend:

  • Local AIMSweb® Managers (LAMs)
  • Participants who wish to learn key steps, guidelines, and tips for interpreting AIMSweb® data at the micro through macro levels—all designed to facilitate improved educational outcomes for students. (*Class sizes are limited to about 25-30 attendees, however.)
  • School and District-level leaders who wish to learn to interpret, apply, and maximize the benefit of AIMSweb® data to make decisions across the classroom, school and district(s) levels.
  • It is strongly recommended that at least one school or district-level administrator attend the full workshop.

As this session builds upon previously learned skills, this one-day intensive workshop is specifically designed only for schools that have already successfully used AIMSweb® for Benchmarking/Universal Screening. Participants should have access to local data for one or more Benchmark/Universal Screening periods to maximize the benefits of this workshop.

Agenda: (Start and end times may be adjusted slightly to suit your local schedule)

Day 1:

8:00am: Introductions & Activity
8:30am: Benchmark/Universal Screening Check-Up
"Garbage in—garbage out." Interpreting any data accurately relies extensively upon the quality of the data at the time it was collected. As a foundational module of this workshop, focus is first put on obtaining quality data at all times. Participants will begin by engaging in a facilitated dialogue about their most recent Universal Screening processes while the Certified AIMSweb® Trainer highlights best-practices and offers strategies for further improving the efficiency, quality, inter-rater reliability, and validity of the AIMSweb data collected.
9:00am:

Benchmark/Universal Screening: Student and Class-Level Reports Beginning at the student and class level, participants will learn how to best interpret reports accessible to a classroom teacher. Clarification and guidance will be offered on the following:

  • Interpreting Individual Student Reports for Benchmark (i.e.,"box and whisker" reports) when toggling between the local through national normative comparison groups.
  • Improve understanding of Rates of Improvement for students
  • Strategic Monitoring: What it is, how it is done, and how interpret the data properly.
  • Demystifying Norm-referenced performance vs. Criterion-Referenced performance. This session will clarify the purposes of these two types of reporting options, as well as enhance your ability to make sound programming decisions based on this data.
10:00am: Break
10:15am: Class and Grade-Level Reports, Continued.
  • Using the "Scores and Percentiles Report" (i.e., "Rainbow" reports), importance of Accuracy Rates, improve your ability to use this report correctly, and avoid common mistakes made along the way. Time will be spent with this report in both Criterion-Referenced and Norm-Referenced formats
  • NEW Reports! There are several exciting new student and class-level reports within AIMSweb®, released in fall 2010! Hands-on learning will be provided on interpreting and benefiting from these excellent additions to your student and class-level reporting options!
  • Interpret several key reports that compile data at the Grade-Level within your school.
  • Learn how these reports, combined with other data collected locally, may facilitate improved grade-level team meetings, RtI-related dialogue, inform instructional programming decisions, and facilitate improved outcomes for students
11:30pm: Lunch (on your own)
12:30pm:

School and District-Level Reports
Special focus on reports for Administrators, Managers, School Improvement Team Leaders, etc.

  • Status Report: What is it and why do we need to use it?
  • Learn to analyze growth and rates of improvement over time within heterogeneous and homogeneous groups
  • Enhance use filtering tools when reporting growth trends to better pinpoint strengths and difficulties among various homogeneous and heterogeneous groups
  • Learn how to monitor instructional improvement at the Core (Tier 1) Instructional levels.
  • Evaluate your school and district performance to other groups and against targets for performance
2:00pm: Break
2:15pm: Progress Monitor Data
  • Through case studies, participants will learn successful strategies for improving their ability to accurately interpret progress monitor data at the student level.
  • Learn how to spot possible erroneous data, poorly constructed progress monitor schedules, and avoid potential pitfalls that could invalidate your progress monitor data
  • Use progress monitor data to evaluate Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), Regression and Recoupment, and more.
  • Review progress monitor data within your schools and learn to identify strong schedules versus those which may need additional modification so as to maximize student outcomes
