Important M-CBM Retirement Announcement
Dear AIMSweb M-CBM user:
AIMSweb has historically offered Mathematics-CBM (M-CBM) as an assessment of math computation skills for Grades 1-8.
As of August 1, 2011, AIMSweb will be retiring the M-CBM collection of assessments, with the exception of Math Facts - and will encourage customers to begin using M-COMP for their math computation assessment needs. Please be assured that your historical M-CBM data will remain in the system and you will continue to be able to run reports for past years.
What is M-COMP?
A new AIMSweb mathematics assessment, M-COMP (Math Computation), launched in 2010 as a single-series revision of the M-CBM collection of assessments (M-CBM, M-CBM2, M-CBMAP, and Math Facts). M-COMP was developed to be consistent with the AIMSweb M-CAP assessment (Math Concepts and Applications) in terms of scoring rules, format, number of benchmark and progress monitoring probes per grade, and reporting.
M-COMP features:
- Enhanced content to increase overall rigor and align more closely with NCTM standards
- Three benchmark probes and 30 progress monitoring probes, with fewer, but more targeted items than previous versions
- Updated and streamlined scoring rules and new reporting
- A new Administration, Scoring and Technical Manual
- Enhanced, student-friendly format
An equivalency table was created between M-CBM and M-COMP to allow users to identify interim M-COMP target scores that are comparable to M-CBM target scores while M-COMP norm data are being collected. The table, available under the Downloads tab, is based on 2010 spring data and its use rests on the reasonable assumption that the M-COMP/M-CBM score relationship is the same at different times of the year. However, new national norms for M-COMP will be available this coming fall 2011 and should be used for comparison data for the 2011-2012 school year.
We realize that some districts have not been able to transition to M-COMP. If you anticipate further delays in your transition and would like to continue to use M-CBM during the 2011-2012 school year, please contact aimswebsales@pearson.com or call 866.313.6194.
